Melanie Schopper holds a BA in Art from the University of Texas at Austin.  Upon graduation she worked for two years welding and "whitesmithing" as a sculptor's assistant in a local production studio.  Since 2000 she has maintained an apprenticeship at Ginko Studio, working with ceramic artist, Sun Yong Chung.  Additionally in the fall of 2000, Schopper took residence at the Center For Maximum Potential Building Systems to study and participate in the practice of open system design.  Her work has been exhibited in Austin, New York, New Orleans, Washington D.C., and Tokyo.  Currently she is building a line of functional ceramics.

Past collaborations include: 2002 team member of the UT School of Architecture/Department of Energy Solar Decathlon, 2002 - 2004 editor/writer/project manager of Cityfold magazine, and three consecutive shows for the East Austin Studio Tour.
